As an Iceland elopement photographer, I’ve had the incredible honour of capturing love stories on some of the country’s most breathtaking beaches, and trust me there’s nothing quite like it.

Dramatic Scenery: Black sand, towering cliffs, basalt columns, sea stacks, and even icebergs—every beach has its own character.

Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach
Probably Iceland’s most famous beach, Reynisfjara is famous for its black volcanic sand, towering basalt columns, and the iconic Reynisdrangar sea stacks rising out of the Atlantic Ocean. At sunrise or sunset, it’s pure magic. Be mindful of the powerful waves (known as sneaker waves) and stay safe.
Diamond Beach
Located near Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Diamond Beach is littered with glittering icebergs that have washed ashore. The mix of black sand and sparkling ice creates a surreal and unforgettable setting for a truly unique elopement.
Stokksnes Beach
My favourite black beach! With sweeping black sands and the jagged peaks of Vestrahorn Mountain as your backdrop, Stokksnes is one of Iceland’s most photogenic beaches. It’s remote, dramatic, and perfect for adventurous couples.
Dyrhólaey Peninsula
Perched above the ocean, Dyrhólaey offers panoramic views of the coastline and a natural stone archway over the sea. The nearby cliffs are also home to puffins during the summer months, adding an extra magical touch.
Sólheimasandur Plane Wreck Beach
For something truly unique, elope beside the famous abandoned DC-3 plane wreck on Sólheimasandur Beach. The endless black sands and haunting beauty of the wreck create an edgy, unforgettable vibe. I have been dying to shoot a wedding couple here, it’s high on my bucket list!
Dress for the Elements: Icelandic beaches are stunning but can be windy and chilly. Bring warm layers, and don’t be afraid to rock hiking boots under your wedding attire.
Stay Safe: Always respect warning signs and stay away from the water’s edge at Reynisfjara and other beaches known for strong waves.
Timing is Everything: Sunrise and sunset offer the best light and fewer crowds. Plus, the low golden sun makes the landscape even more magical. Trying to avoid the tour busses is key for popular beach locations.
Be Flexible: Iceland’s weather changes quickly. Embrace the adventure some of the best moments happen in unexpected conditions. But, I’ll be there cheering you on, with either a hot chocolate or tequila! LOL! We make it work and we have the BEST time doing it!
